La Monnaie and the STIB are joining forces to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Brussels Metro!
This year, Mobility Week coincides with the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Brussels metro network. La Monnaie, which promotes sustainable mobility, has joined in the STIB’s celebrations by organising a pop-up fashion show at De Brouckère station on 15 September.
At noon, metro passengers were surprised to see 15 extras parading through the station, dressed in opera costumes from the La Monnaie Workshops. These pieces, selected by Bruno Fatalot, head of La Monnaie’s costume workshop, come from several landmark productions in the institution’s recent history. The event was accompanied by classical music played throughout De Brouckère station. This served to highlight the close connection between the public and our opera house – both literally and figuratively – and to encourage them to come and discover our programme by using the public transports.
