The La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra
at the Salzburger Festspiele
On 29 July and 1 August, the La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alain Altinoglu, was invited to perform for the first time in its history at the Salzburger Festspiele, the world’s most prestigious opera festival. The programme featured two concert performances of Jules Massenet’s Werther, with tenor Benjamin Bernheim in the title role and French mezzo-soprano Adèle Charvet as Charlotte.
Thanks to the support of the players of the National Lottery, the production team was able to prepare itself in the best possible conditions throughout the rehearsal period in Brussels, before travelling to Salzburg. This historic premiere was a resounding success, with a full house and a long standing ovation at both performances, glowing reviews, and unforgettable memories for the musicians of the orchestra.
