With Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher, Three Strong Women and Giovanna d’Arco on the programme this autumn, La Monnaie is turning the spotlight on female heroism and delving into the place of the beautiful and strong sex in the history of opera as well as in this art form today.
Come along to La Monnaie on Sunday October 20th for a special theme day on leading ladies in the opera: from celebrated prima donnas to forgotten composers, from the female artists on our stage to the indispensible female forces behind the scenes.
- 11:00 – 12:00 : Lecture by Hyacinthe Ravet, author of Musiciennes. Enquête sur les femmes et la musique, and Mélanie Traversier, author of La musique a-t-elle un genre ?
- 12:15 – 13:00 : Lunch
- 13:15 – 14:00 : Silvia Costa, artistic collaborator for Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher, in conversation.
- 14:15 – 15:15 : ‘INSIDE’ – Private encounters with various female collaborators of La Monnaie.
- 15:30 – 16:00 : Musical epilogue with Femke Sonnen (violin), Anastasya Terenkova (piano) et Shiho Nishimura (cello).
