Bizet’s most celebrated opera has long been presented as a tragic love story between Carmen and Don José. But the libretto tells a very different story: provocations, insults, threats and violence, even feminicide. What if Carmen didn’t need to die in the end? What if the opera became a playground for collective questioning of violence against women?
On 21 June, spend the day at La Monnaie for a workshop on the most beautiful arias from Carmen, revisited by composer Fabian Fiorini, director Claire Pasquier and librettist Amandine Dhée. In the company of the Chœur Cassandra Koor, you will take part in vocal and stage rehearsals and enjoy a free lunch, before presenting the results of your work on the Place de la Monnaie during the Fête de la Musique!
