Heritage Days
Opera Landscapes

Presentation

Discover the process of creating an opera set for free during Heritage Days!

For its 38th edition, Heritage Days invites you to rediscover Brussels’ tangible and intangible cultural heritage by visiting places rarely open to the public! Under the theme ‘our landscape, our heritage’, this year’s event encourages people to explore Brussels through its built, natural and social landscapes, as well as its everyday and iconic places or panoramic views.

A symbol of Brussels’ cultural heritage for several centuries, La Monnaie has its own way of creating new visual landscapes. On stage, sets often reflect aesthetic, social and cultural transformations. They evoke the past, the present and the future, enhance reality and stimulate the imagination, constantly reinventing themselves through a blend of new technologies and traditional craftsmanship.

For these Heritage Days 2026, free guided tours will immerse you in the creative process behind the sets of our opera house, from the initial sketches right through to their construction on stage. This exclusive tour will open the doors to areas that are usually off-limits, such as the bureau d’études, where projects take shape through drawings, plans and models; the assembly hall, where the sets take shape at full scale; and the rehearsal rooms, where these landscapes are transformed through the interplay of movement, light and music. Discover how opera creates entire worlds, and how these reflect the ways in which we perceive, imagine and inhabit our own.
