“We experience the disillusionment and the sorrow, and there then follows the memory of Le Temps des lilas: the melancholy of the end of love.” It is with these words that Anna Caterina Antonacci describes the finale of her recital at La Monnaie, in which she takes the audience on musical wanderings with romantic and symbolist variations. In recent seasons, this Italian soprano has been a regular guest at La Monnaie, among other things in Fauré’s Pénélope, Poulenc’s La Voix humaine and also in the orchestral version of Giuseppe Martucci’s La canzone dei ricordi, from which she is now also performing songs. Through the medium of rarely heard songs, this celebrated tragedienne, accompanied by her regular pianist Donald Sulzen and the La Monnaie String Quartet, will for a whole evening explore even more her penchant for the French and Italian music of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
