In anticipation of 'Pinocchio', a team from La Monnaie followed the Belgian composer Philippe Boesmans for more than a year. Together, they took a look at his extraordinary career, from the very beginning in his home town, Tongeren, to the rehearsals for 'Pinocchio' in Aix-en-Provence.

An old man carves a small human doll out of a piece of wood and calls it Pinocchio. A miracle takes place: the doll comes to life. Pinocchio's life is no bed of roses: he meets swindlers who take his money, a callous judge, and murderers who leave him for dead. Fortunately, despite his lies, a good fairy constantly defends him.
