Technical Director

As Technical Director, you develop a vision and lead, coordinate and supervise the various activities and services within the Technical and Facility Management department. You propose a coherent policy that ensures technical and artistic implementation, in line with the artistic and operational strategy and objectives.

(Start date: July 1, 2027)

Your job description
  • In consultation with the general management, you develop a clear and coherent technical, facility and maintenance policy in the short and long term;
  • You ensure, both internally and externally, the consistent implementation of the technical and facility policies and continuously improve them;
  • You advise management and your teams on technical matters;
  • You organise, coordinate and supervise the teams under your responsibility;
  • You prepare their budgets and monitor them closely;
  • You motivate, evaluate and support the development of your teams;
  • You manage and improve internal and external relations and represent your departments with internal and external stakeholders in order to foster collaboration.
Your profile
  • You hold a master’s degree;
  • You have at least 10 years of relevant experience in a position of responsibility within the technical departments of a theatre;
  • You have a thorough understanding of the operations of an opera house, general construction techniques, including stage technology and the functioning of scenery and costume workshops;
  • You are fully familiar with production creation processes within an opera house or theatre;
  • Thanks to your previous experience, you are able to manage large multidisciplinary teams and oversee their budgets and schedules;
  • You are fluent in French, Dutch and English. Knowledge of any additional language is an asset;
  • You have a good knowledge of the Belgian and international artistic landscape.

Selection procedure
  • If your application is shortlisted by the Talent Management team and the Technical Management based on your CV and cover letter, you will be contacted for a 15-minute phone interview;
  • If expectations are aligned following this exchange, you will be invited to la Monnaie for a first interview with the Technical Management and a member of the Talent Management team;
  • If the first interview is successful, an assessment will be organised by an external assessment center;
  • Feedback from this assessment will be shared during a second interview with the general management and a member of the directors’ committee;
  • Finally, and prior to any offer of employment, references will be checked.
