LA MONNAIE / DE MUNT
A man takes his daughter to the mountains where he plants thousands of trees to protect them. Snakes infiltrate the forest, kidnap the man and take him deep into the jungle where he is transformed by the wilderness into a tree. When the rain comes, his daughter is transformed into a river and spreads across the land, searching for her father and bringing new life.
In Snake, Anna and Howard Moody drew inspiration from Eulogy for a Man Who Still Lives: a book written by the dancer María Sara Villa about her father’s kidnapping in Colombia. The piece brings together imagery from María’s story and the processing of her loss through dance, with imagery of the Caño Cristales (“the rainbow river”) which snakes into the heart of what used to be dangerous guerrilla territory. Following the success of Solar and Push, this new creation is once again being performed by the Youth Choir of La Monnaie, conducted by Benoît Giaux, directed by Benoît De Leersnyder and choreographed by Karine Girard.
