LA MONNAIE / DE MUNT
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote his last three symphonies in a great tidal wave of creative energy in 1788. The foaming crests of that wave encapsulate not only his talent, but also the history of symphonic music until that time. Sorrow and sensuality are intertwined throughout Symphony No. 40 – in the dramatic key of G minor – whereas the fundamental key of C major predicts the epic nature of his final ‘Jupiter’ Symphony.
The Freiburger Barockorchester, which has made the authentic performance of eighteenth-century music its speciality, is certain to rise to the occasion. Jeanine De Bique, artist in residence in Brussels this season, joins them with a selection of arias from Mozart’s timeless operas, a repertoire that holds few secrets for the Trinidadian soprano.
