LA MONNAIE / DE MUNT
Medusa confronts the lasting psychological trauma endured by its heroine in the aftermath of sexual violence. Rather than treating it as a distant or symbolic tale, the opera reclaims Medusa’s story as an intimate exploration of pain, resilience, and transformation, shedding light on the silenced voices behind the myth. In collaboration with the non-profit organisation Amazone, La Monnaie extends this reflection beyond the stage by organising a panel discussion dedicated to the urgent issue of violence against women. Artists, researchers and specialists, will explore the myth and its various (re)interpretations, including the opera’s libretto, from a historical and feminist perspective.
The discussions will also feature a performance by the Chœur Cassandra Koor, who will sing a programme of protest songs championing the rights of women and gender minorities.
