Opera Europa and OperaVision launch charity campaign for Ukrainian artists
On this World Opera Day, Opera Europa – a collective of 222 European opera companies, including La Monnaie – and OperaVision are launching a charity campaign in support of
Ukrainian opera artists.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, many of the country's theaters have been severely damaged or even destroyed by bombing, and many promising artistic careers have been cut short. On the occasion of World Opera Day, Opera Europa and OperaVision are launching a series of charity actions in support of the artists, as well as the administrative and technical staff of these theaters. Several artists will be taken in by other European
companies in the network, to help them pursue their careers and give them the capacity to
rebuild the cultural landscape of their countries.
OperaVision is also streaming the opera The Golden Crown, an opera by the Ukrainian composer Borys Lyatoshynsky, together with six other productions, to raise donations in support of Ukrainian artists. It is possible to make donations via the platform Transnational Giving Europe, a network of 20 leading European foundations that supports cross-border intra-European philanthropy, or through the online campaign GoFundMe.
From 3 June to 22 September, La Monnaie and Muntpunt are transforming Rue Royale—the small street between their buildings—into a vibrant summer spot. A long table will serve as a welcoming meeting place where locals and passers-by can read, have lunch, play board games, or simply soak up the sun.
A real feast for the eyes and ears in 2023, La Monnaie’s production of Tchaikovsky’s most intimate and celebrated opera, directed by Laurent Pelly and conducted by Alain Altinoglu, is now available on DVD, Blu-ray and streaming via Naxos.
