La Monnaie in pink for the fight against breast cancer
As part of the worldwide Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the façade of La Monnaie was lit up in pink on Sunday, 19 October. Through this symbolic gesture, our house aims to highlight what is still insufficiently known about the disease.
Every year in October, pink becomes a universal symbol of solidarity in the fight against breast cancer. In Belgium, 1 in 8 women is affected by this disease, making it the most common cancer among women in the country. This is an opportunity to remind people of the importance of mammography screening, of supporting research and helping patients and their loved ones. By lighting up the façade of its theatre in pink, La Monnaie shows its support for Think Pink, the national organisation fighting breast cancer.
If you would also like to contribute, Think Pink offers several ways to get involved: by wearing a pink ribbon to show your solidarity; by spreading the word about the ‘J'peux pas, j'ai Mammo’ campaign, which encourages mammography screenings among those most statistically affected by the disease; by participating in Races for the Cure, walks and runs organised in support of research and patients throughout Belgium from September 20th to November 2nd; by creating your own initiative for Think Pink; or by making a donation to fund concrete prevention, research and support initiatives where the need is most urgent.
