Sylvia Huang appointed La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra’s new concertmaster
After several rounds of auditions, the Belgian violinist and laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition Sylvia Huang has been appointed La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra’s new concertmaster.
From 2012 to 2014 Sylvia Huang was a member of the Belgian National Orchestra, where she was promoted to second violin soloist. She has been a member of the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam since August 2014. Passionately fond of chamber music, in September 2014 she and three colleagues founded the GoYa Quartet. They perform regularly at home and abroad. In 2019 she was awarded the Audience Prize in the violin edition of the Queen Elisabeth Competition. Today, at the age of 28, she joins Saténik Khourdoïan as La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra’s concertmaster.
A real feast for the eyes and ears in 2023, La Monnaie’s production of Tchaikovsky’s most intimate and celebrated opera, directed by Laurent Pelly and conducted by Alain Altinoglu, is now available on DVD, Blu-ray and streaming via Naxos.
From March 28 to 30, the tenth edition of the Passa Porta Festival will take place, dedicated entirely to the theme of ‘Ghosts’. This year, numerous events will also be held at La Monnaie, ranging from encounters with leading authors to literary tours.
