A bus ticket and… an aria, please! Thanks to a collaboration between La Monnaie and the Brussels public transport company (STIB/MIVB), some Brussels bus stops will be announced in song during the weekend of 21–22 September by singers from the MM Academy.
To kick off the new opera season with flair, the usual digital voice on bus line 71 will sound a little different. This weekend, the stops De Brouckère, Troon, Naamsepoort, Flagey, Bozar, Delta, ULB and Buyl are getting a temporary operatic makeover. Picture this: “Flagey” sung as a cascade of vocalises from Delibes’ “Flower Duet”, “De Brouckère” set to the sultry tones of Bizet’s “Habanera”, or “Naamsepoort” transformed into Puccini’s tender “O mio babbino caro.”
The voices behind these melodic stop announcements? Two rising talents from our MM Academy: soprano Adelaïde Supiot and mezzo-soprano Blandine Coulon.
After a first run on 6–8 September, the musical bus stops will return for La Monnaie's Opening Weekend, 20–21 September. So hop on bus 71, ride towards Place de la Monnaie, and let the journey put you in the perfect opera mood!
