On Monday 29 April 2019, the Sadler's Wells Theatre in London set the stage for the 2019 International Opera Awards Ceremony. La Monnaie took home the award for Best New Production with Janáček’s From theHouse of the Dead.
This production was presented at La Monnaie last November, in a staging by Krzysztof Warlikowski. Next season, the acclaimed Polish director, a regular guest in Brussels, returns for a new production of Jacques Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann.
Founded in 2012, the International Opera Awards is an annual celebration of excellence in opera around the world. Judging of the International Opera Awards is carried out by a jury of industry professionals comprising critics and musicians, but also of readers of Opera Magazine.
French baritone Stéphane Degout, another frequent guest at La Monnaie, won the award in the Best Recording (Solo Recital) category for his album Enfers (Harmonia Mundi); and Katie Mitchell, who will stage Zauberlandat La Monnaie next season, was voted Best Director.
Finally, La Monnaie also wishes to congratulate its colleagues at the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen for winning the award for Best Opera Company.
The MM Academy will take part in the be.Source Foundation Christmas concert
On December 14th at 3 p.m., two singers from the MM Academy and the Cassandra Choir will take part in the annual charity Christmas concert organised by the be.Source Foundation at the Sablon.
