Today, on the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, La Monnaie celebrates diversity in all its forms and expresses its support for all organisations that stand up for LGBTQIA+ rights.
For several years now, the month of May sees many initiatives and organisations calling for the celebration of diversity and tolerance. This is still needed. Unfortunately, all over the world - including in Brussels - people are still falling victim to violence, exclusion and discrimination on a daily basis because of their perceived "otherness".
On this International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, and in the run-up to the Belgian Pride that will cross the Place de la Monnaie on Saturday 21 May, La Monnaie wishes to show its support for all those who are fighting for the rights of people who identify themselves as LGBTQIA+. In their struggle, they bring about a gradual change in mentality and a more open society. La Monnaie wants to contribute to this transformation, convinced that culture and education have an essential role to play in it.
