La Monnaie nominated for several International Opera Awards
Our house and our productions have a chance to win the coveted and renowned Opera Awards in the categories ‘Sustainability’ and ‘Best World Premiere’ (for The Time of Our Singing). The artistic team behind Il trittico is also in the running for an award.
The International Opera Awards are the most important international awards for opera
productions and theatres. In this year's list of nominees, La Monnaie is strongly represented
in several categories. For example, thanks to our Green Opera project, we have a shot at
winning a statuette in the new category 'Sustainability' and The Time of our Singing made it
onto the shortlist in the Best World Premiere category.
Voters were clearly also impressed by our production of Il trittico. Both director Tobias
Kratzer and scenographer Rainer Sellmaier have a chance at winning an award, in the
categories 'Best Director&' and 'Best Designer' respectively.
Furthermore, we find many members of La Monnaie's large artistic family among the
nominees. Der Rosenkavalier’s scenographer Paolo Fantin, for example, is competing with
Rainer Sellmaier for Best Designer. Stéphanie d'Oustrac, who later this season will bring a recital at La Monnaie, could crown herself ‘Best Female Singer’. And both MM Ambassador
Enea Scala and our upcoming Yevgeny Onegin Stéphane Degout are aiming for the title of
‘Best Male Singer’.
Who ultimately gets to place the statuettes on his mantel, will be decided on November 28. The awards will be presented during a festive evening at the Teatro Real in Madrid.
